Men's Young Player of the Year - Louis Roddy

Youth Admin24 Sep 2020 - 21:20

For Season 2019/20

Louis Roddy was the unanimous choice of the Men's Section Committee as the Young Player of the Year for 2019/20 after another season of outstanding success for the 16 year old RGC schoolboy.

A member of the GHC Youth Section since the age of 8, Louis had the honour of being selected for the Scottish Under-16 international squad and also latterly for the Scottish U-18 Academy Series programme, whilst in addition he was one of the outstanding team members, both on and off the field, on the Club's U-16 Tour to Holland in October and in the School 1st team. Louis is an excellent example of the level to which our Youth Section coaching can take a player along with his own hard work on his skills and fitness.

A measure of his ability and of the high regard in which Louis was held by the Club was the fact that he was able to hold down a place in the midfield of the Men's 1st team in Division 2 of the National League throughout the season, putting in a series of impressive performances against very much bigger and more experienced players.

A number of previous winners of this award have gone on to win international honours, Craig Harper and Jamie Wong at full, and Colin McIver, Adam Walker, Stuart Allan, Tom O'Kelly and Andy Webb at U-21 level and we can but hope that Louis can follow in their footsteps in the years to come. In the meantime there is no doubt that he is a very worthy winner indeed of last season's award.
