Round up of the club's weekend
NATIONAL LEAGUES
Gordonians Men 2 - Kelburne Men 0
Our Men’s 1s won their 4th match in this season’s National League thanks to a first quarter open play goal by Chris Moon and a corner goal by recent recruit Sam Sharp. This was Chris’s 4th goal of the season so far and Sam’s 2nd goal. Captain Peter Serle is still top scorer on 5. Mention should also be made of our strong defence and young goalkeeper Leo Main who together repelled numerous attacks from the Paisley club and deserved their clean sheet. Our Men are now 3rd in the league on goal difference behind leaders FMGM Monarchs.
Gordonians Ladies 1 – Edinburgh Uni Ladies 2
A tight contest with Gordonians on top in the first quarter but unable to make it count so 0-0 at half-time. In the second half Edinburgh Uni were stronger and despite some excellent saves by Morven Begg eventually scored from close in. They were still proving hard to break down until Gracie Gray-Giles took the ball to the bye line and gave an excellent angled cut back to Shannon MacAngus who shot first time into the goal to make it 1-1. A draw seemed to be a fair result however close to the end of the match Uni scored again from close range to win. Shannon’s goal draws her level with midfielder Emma Christie on 4 goals each. After starting the season so well home and away with four wins, this late defeat was hard to take but our Ladies are still 2nd in the league just one point behind Dundee Wanderers.
NORTH DISTRICT MEN’S LEAGUE
Gordonians Men 3rds 4 – Granite City Wanderers 3rds 0
All four goals were scored by Wiens van Zeil; quite an achievement.
NORTH DISTRICT U-10 FESTIVAL
3 teams from our Bronze squad (P4-P5) each played five short games against teams from GCW, Ellon, Aberdeen HC, and each other at Inverurie Academy on Sunday morning.
